Courses and Activities

ACADEMICS

Cadets are expected to complete a minimum of 9 scholastic units during their 3rd Class year.

  • 2 Mathematics Units

  • 1 Science Unit

  • 1 Social Studies Unit

  • 1 English Language Arts Unit

  • 1 Modern Language Unit

  • 1 Computer Science Unit

ATHLETICS

Cadets are expected to develop proficiency in all 5 events of the modern pentathlon:

  • Fencing

  • 10m Air Pistol

  • 200m Freestyle Swimming

  • 800m Medium Distance Running

  • Obstacle Racing

    Cadets may also begin external competition in one or more events as part of the junior varsity team.

FLIGHT

Cadets complete glider pilot training and should expect to earn a Private Pilot - Glider certificate once they are 16 years old.

LEADERSHIP

Cadets participate in a weekly Civics seminar conducted by members of our faculty cadre. 3rd Class Cadets will mentor 4th Class Cadets, and participate in leadership roles within the Cadet Wing such as Element Leader, Flight Sergeant, or NCO-In-Charge (NCOIC) of extracurricular activities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

All cadets are co-enrolled in either the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program or Scouts BSA. All cadets must remain co-enrolled and active in their respective units throughout their time as Cadets of EAMA. Follow the links below for additional CAP or BSA program expectations for 3rd Class Cadets.

Extra-curricular activities

All 3rd Class Cadets participate in three extracurricular activities intended to provide foundational skills for future academic and professional development such as critical thinking, problem solving, social acuity, and patience.

  • Competitive Chess

  • Lincoln/Douglas or Cross-Examination Debate

  • Music familiarization
