2nd Class Cadet

Courses and Activities

ACADEMICS

Cadets are expected to complete a minimum of 6 scholastic units during their 2nd Class year.

  • 1 Mathematics Unit

  • 1 Science Unit

  • 1 Social Studies Unit

  • 1 English Language Arts Unit

  • 1 Modern Language Unit

  • 1 Computer Science Unit

    Additionally, 2nd Class Cadets are expected to complete:

  • 1 ACT or SAT Preparation Course

  • 1 College Writing Course

ATHLETICS

Cadets will compete on the varsity athletic team in at least two competitive pentathlons.

FLIGHT

Cadets may begin powered flight training during their 2nd Class year. Those Cadets who choose to begin powered flight training are expected to achieve a powered flight solo before the beginning of their 1st Class year.

Cadets that do not move onto powered flight will continue regular glider flying to maintain proficiency or seek additional glider certifications.

LEADERSHIP

Leadership training for 2nd Class Cadets is primarily achieved through their own instruction of junior Cadets. 2nd Class Cadets are officers in the EAMA program, and are responsible for mentoring, tutoring, and guiding junior Cadets. Additionally, 2nd Class Cadets may assist as instructors for Character Development, Civics, or 4th Class athletics.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

All cadets are co-enrolled in either the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program or Scouts BSA. All cadets must remain co-enrolled and active in their respective units throughout their time as Cadets of EAMA. Follow the links below for additional CAP or BSA program expectations for 2nd Class Cadets.

Extra-curricular activities

All 2nd Class Cadets participate in two extracurricular activities intended to provide foundational skills for future academic and professional development such as critical thinking, problem solving, social acuity, and patience.

  • Competitive Chess or Debate

  • Music familiarization

OPTIONAL CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT

2nd Class Cadets are encouraged to explore foreign exchange opportunities for a summer, a semester, or even an academic year. Planning for a foreign exchange program will require Cadets to complete additional academic units prior to their time abroad. However, the experience is worth the extra effort, and is encouraged the faculty cadre.
